06/01/2010 FUNDING ANNOUNCED FOR JOCKEY RESEARCH......

It has taken almost 3 years to put in place, but thanks to the Injured Jockeys Fund the research into the physiological demands of race riding is planned to be completed later this month. It is going to take place at the British Racing School with the support of the Professional Jockey's Association using many of the top flat and jump jockeys in the UK.

The research will involve simulated races with jockeys wearing a vest containing the equipment to measure what is happening. This will be a first for racing and the results are eagerly anticipated. The study is designed to be the start of an enhancement into jockey's safety, performance and welfare and will help the sport learn more about its unique characteristics.
